Our UNESCO Chair Among the European Commission’s AI Advisors

The European Commission has appointed the UNESCO Chair on Digital Platforms for Learning Societies, operating within the Institute of the Information Society at LUPS, as a member of the Advisory Forum established under the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). The Advisory Forum serves as the general advisory body to the European Artificial Intelligence Board—which is composed of one representative from the Commission and one from each Member State—and supports the implementation and enforcement of the AI Act. The Advisory Forum develops opinions, recommendations, and written comments, and prepares an annual report on its activities.

Following an open call for applications, the Commission selected the members of the Advisory Forum from among more than 700 organisations with recognised expertise in the field of artificial intelligence. The membership of the Advisory Forum is balanced, comprising representatives from industry, start-ups, SMEs, civil society, and the academic community. In addition, the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA), the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) are ex officio members.

The UNESCO Chair at LUPS will be the sole Hungarian member of the 174-member advisory body. The appointment is for two-year term and may be extended for up to four years.
